The overlap is large and, to be honest, it is the core of both products: the digital class register with attendance and absences, sick notes filed by parents, messages to classes and staff, booking consultation slots, and showing the timetable and cover plan to each role. Anyone ticking off that list will find an answer on both sides. The difference is not the list but what the system is built on top of. WebUntis is thought from the timetable outwards and is most tightly meshed there. SchuleVernetzt is thought from the organisation of the school day outwards and takes the plan as a delivery. For a school whose planning sits firmly with Untis that is no disadvantage – the plan comes from the same source either way.
What only works across schools
The real difference starts at the school boundary. When a teacher is off and nobody in your own staff room is free, the search ends in any platform that only knows your own school. SchuleVernetzt is built so that several schools can run a shared cover pool: a neighbouring school sees the open lesson, one of their teachers takes it, and the accounting behind it is a matter for the authorities. The same principle carries joint courses for small subjects that never fill at a single school, and shared teaching material. This is not a module you buy on top; it is the assumption the data model rests on – and the reason the established systems have no equivalent.
When WebUntis is the better choice
There are cases where we would advise against us. If a school runs its timetabling deeply in Untis and needs the tightest possible meshing between planning and the daily surface, there is a lot to be said for the system from the same workshop. If a federal state or an education authority already prescribes or funds WebUntis, the question is settled anyway. And if a mature product tried and tested over years is what counts, rather than a network with neighbouring schools, then maturity is an argument a young product cannot counter – SchuleVernetzt is still before launch. If you are moving anyway, want to start alone, or need the network of schools, this is the other scope.
What a move actually involves
The timetable is still built in Untis and taken over as an export – a move changes nothing about that. What is new is the surface above it: classes and contacts are read in once, after which class register, sick notes and parent communication run there. Running both side by side for one term is the usual route, so nobody has to relearn mid-year.
